Oaklee launch a new Tenant’s Guide to Saving Energy, Money and the Environment (January 2010)

Oaklee Homes Group in association with the energy saving trust have produced a new guide for Oaklee tenants on saving energy, money and the environment.

As one of the leading Housing Associations in Ireland, Oaklee is aware of the significant challenges of global warming and fuel poverty. The extreme fluctuations in the cost of heating oil, natural gas, and electricity over recent years have reinforced the need to reduce energy usage. In doing so, we will all be able to reduce our impact upon the environment and save money on our energy bills.

Oaklee have already taken a number of major steps to promote energy saving, including being the first Association in Northern Ireland to appoint a dedicated member of staff to focus on energy management.

All of Oaklee schemes are built to the highest of standards and we are continually searching for ways to improve energy usage at existing schemes, such as upgrading insulation, improving lighting and piloting renewable technologies such as solar panels.

However, in order to make the most impact, Oaklee realise that it is vital to educate, encourage and empower all of our tenants to take action to reduce energy consumption. For this reason Oaklee have worked closely with the energy saving trust to develop the booklet, which is intended to give information on the different areas where energy savings can be made.

Brian Rankin Energy Officer for Oaklee comments, "Oaklee would like to encourage our tenants to give consideration to the energy saving recommendations in this booklet. We might not be able to control the cost of heating oil, natural gas and electricity, but we can take action to reduce our energy consumption so that we can all save energy, money and the environment."
